As the term suggests, chemotherapy is done using chemicals to kill rapidly dividing cells. At some point, one of the disadvantages of chemotherapy is that it also kills normal cells that divide rapidly. Since most cancer cells are really fast in splitting and dividing compared with the normal cells, most chemicals used for this type of therapy attack the cancer cells first.
Those drugs used for chemotherapy treatment work by impairing and misaligning cell division. And the targets are the fast-dividing cells. Typically, as chemical compounds work to attack fast-growing cells, tumor cells which are sooner to cell division is damaged faster than the regular cells, so allowing the affected part to have less constraints.
Are we aware that chemicals used for the chemotherapy process effectively reduce younger tumors than malignant one? It is said that it is easier to cure a cancer if the roots are just new, and it is not in an advance state of growth. With chemotherapy, it triggers the division of tumor cells while leaving them with less ability to reproduce and create harmful compounds.
At the same time, as the chemotherapy process progresses, it totally ceases the division of the cells, thus preventing the cancer cells to spread out. For a prostate patient scenario, it is easier to cure the disease if the patient is in T1 and T2 of the disease. Since during these stages, the roots are just within the prostate gland, and the cancer cells are still intact to it. It did not spread out yet.
With the chemotherapy process, it will allow the chemical components of the drugs to attack the cancer cells within the prostate gland alone to prevent division and secretion of harmful elements damaging the good cells. As a result, the spread of the cancer cells will be discontinued, since the cell division will be halted using the chemical compounds present on those drugs.
However, there are certain limitations on the chemotherapeutic process. It is a fact that the center core of the tumor is insensitive of chemicals, so chemotherapy processes might not work. Since the center is the core of every activity of the cell division, because of cells cells complexity, chemicals during chemotherapy does not reach the core or the center of the tumor.
This scenario implicates that the chemotherapeutic process is not effective in killing the cancer cells. During this situation, another therapy is higher than that of the chemotherapeutic process being being performed.
We might think that chemotherapy is a simple process but it is not.
Medical experts should make sure that the chemicals will reach the core of the tumor or else chemotherapy is useless since it will not kill the root of the cancer cells. The worst part is that, the chemical treatment might trigger the cancer cells to even divide quickly after it is being touched. At some point chemotherapy may be the reason for higher-level surgeries and therapies.
