In a recent publication, the Early Breast Cancer Trialists’ Collaborative Group (EBCTCG) describes the long-term outcome of 100,000 women with breast cancer. All their cumulative recurrence curves display an important feature of cancer, They all level off. In the presentation I show that the change in recurrence is caused by tumor growth. I further show that also survival is shaped by tumor growth..
When tumor growth rate declines, cumulative recurrence levels off, time between two recurrence events increases, remission lengthens, and disease free interval (DFS) lengthens. 1
